  3. Ok,  I have made a more recent but very buggy app avaialble.
  4. It can't edit -- try and it will destroy your files!
  5.   But you can browse. No embedded graphics unfortunately.

  7. Your development proposal sounds great..... if you are in a position  
  8. to enhance the NeXT editor, then we could come to an arrangement...

  14. WorldWideWeb_0.16.tar.Z is the only wysiwyg hypertext editor for the
  15. NeXT.  It has limitations and bugs -- it can't access Gopher, FTP  
  16. sites,
  17. etc.  But it is a hypertext editor!

  19. Note this app is compiled for NextStep 3.0 and won't work with 2.1.
  20. There is no way round this; don't ask!  (The Project file is
  21. converted by the ProjectBuilder to a version 3 project file
  22. when you first compile for version 3.  The version 3 project
  23. file won't work with 2.0 (Interface builder and project builder
  24. shared a file and an app in 2.x), and so there is no going back!
  25. The 3.x app won't work under 2.x as it needs 3.x shared libaries.)

  28.     THE BROWSER

  30. The file labelled 1.0 is a pre-alpha browser which uses the libwww
  31. library, so you can get multimedia files etc etc.  Does doc
  32. format conversion, etc.

  36. Only for the curious.  This DOES handle Gopher, FTP, etc.

  51. Sorry if I am covering ground covered elsewhere (FAQ's), but I  
  52. thought this might be an appropriate forum for my questions.

  54. I am investigating the possibility of using WWW as the central app  
  55. for our proposed electronic library system (Xel - Xavier electronic  
  56. library).  Having come here recently (2 months ago) from a  
  57. CD-ROM/Hypertext company, WWW appeals to me for a number of reasons.   
  58. I have also worked with various _SGML_, or _SGML-like_ engines (OWL  
  59. Guide, CDAuthor Hypertext, KRS, PLS, Hyperwriter, WorldView, IDEAS,  
  60. Mark-It, etc) and would like to build on that.

  62. The library has four NeXT machines, which will form the seed of the  
  63. system, and they will be the platform where capabilities of the Web  
  64. are first demonstrated (I hope).  I would like to prepare a demo of a  
  65. home page providing access to regional resources (ie. telnet'ing to  
  66. other library catalogues, ftp sites, etc) sometime in the next few  
  67. weeks.

  70. I realize the latest version (0.16) of the NeXT Hypermedia  
  71. Browser/Editor does not support telnet, gopher, etc., but I would  
  72. like to use the NeXT for these early demos if possible.  Besides, I  
  73. am new to NeXT, love it, and would like to use it for document  
  74. creation/development. Once I get into the development environment in  
  75. more detail I would be interested in helping in any way I can with  
  76. the NeXT WWW app.

  78. - Does anybody have a NeXT browser that supports these functions, or  
  79. is there a way to telnet from the current version in some way?

  82. - If not, I have recently loaded MouseX for X11R5 - does anybody have  
  83. any experience with Viola or other X11 apps using this version?   
  84. Should I obtain a different X app for NeXT that has been proven with  
  85. some of these?

  89. away from DOS/Windows if possible for now.
